How Genting Group Acquired the Land

Undoubtedly Resorts World Las Vegas will be built on one of the greatest lands in Vegas. You may have heard of the legendary casino resort Stardust. It was one of the most popular resorts in Las Vegas, visited by millions of people and featured in Hollywood films. According to certain testimonies, Stardust was a real gold mine. Including, its last owners, the reputable family Boyd, were surprised by its profits. The incomes, however, did not stop their plans to close and demolish the casino in 2006. Stardust officially closed its doors to the public that year. In March 2007, the casino resort was imploded during a grand ceremony. The original plans of Boyd Gaming were to build Echelon Place on the emptied land. The construction work started back in 2007 and the company wanted to finish the project by 2010. However, the Great Recession in 2008 affected the plans for Echelon Place as the project could not obtain the expected financing. However, Boyd Gaming still intended to finish the construction and even received a 6 years extension period by the county. Nevertheless, in 2013 Boyd Gaming decided to sell the site to Genting Group, which desired to develop a casino resort named Resorts World Las Vegas. Genting Group also offers an online casino for UK players.

The Initial Plans for Resorts World Las Vegas

On March 4, 2013, Genting Group bought the construction site from Boyd Gaming for $350 million. On the same date, the company publicly announced its plans to build the Chinese-themed Resorts World Las Vegas on the land, using some of the unfinished construction for Echelon Place. The groundbreaking was planned for 2014 and the first phase of the construction was scheduled to open in 2016. The marketing and beautification plan for Resorts World Las Vegas was approved in June 2013, three years ahead of the planned start of the construction. Genting Group’s plans included adding temporary fences around the construction site. It was calculated that the plan would cost around $2 million and that the fences would depict art and renderings of the project. The company also wished to add a sound system that would play music and would announce future promotions. Furthermore, two Chinese-themed preview centres were also supposed to be built for various purposes such as to serve as an office space, a conference room and a shop. The centres were supposed to remain a permanent part of Resorts World Las Vegas upon its completion.

The Establishment of Resorts World Las Vegas

In May 2014, the Nevada Gaming Commission gave its preliminary approval for the operation of the new casino resort to Genting Group. At that time, the group had plans to expand the project by building three additional hotels and to provide employment for around 10,000 people. Furthermore, the company wished to target customers from Asia who had never been to Las Vegas. In order to prepare its plans in a better way, Genting Group decided to push back the resort’s groundbreaking date. The official groundbreaking ceremony took place on May 5, 2015, and the resort was expected to open in 2018. However, things did not go as planned and little construction had been done by 2016. In fact, the status of the resort was even considered questionable when in May 2016 Genting Group announced that the work on the construction will continue progressively so that the Resorts World Las Vegas could be opened in 2019. Yet, once again plans did not go as expected and the opening date was pushed back one more time.

The construction of Resorts World Las Vegas is currently ongoing. The casino will expectedly open its doors to the public in 2020.

Resorts World Las Vegas Expected to Open in 2020

According to Genting Group’s latest announcement, their $4 billion Las Vegas resort will be ready to open its door to the public in 2020. An advanced construction began at the site of the resort in 2017 and the complex is noticeably coming along. However, there are still some analysts who doubt that the project could be completed in 2020. According to their calculation, Resorts World Las Vegas is more likely to be ready after 2021. Even though that it is a fact that Genting Group is far behind its initial plans, it is also true that the company has never abandoned the project. In fact, the setback is due to the group’s attempts to improve the plans and to make a great impression. The Resorts World Las Vegas is not only designed in Chinese style, but it is inspired by some of the most popular traditions in China. One of the themes, planned to be used is a giant Chinese lantern on one tower and red and white patterning throughout the resort. According to recent information, the glass on many of the building began to be installed in the fall of 2018 and the first two towers are supposed to be completed by fall 2019. Furthermore, not every part of the resort has to be ready for the casino to open. Many earlier projects have been done in stages as seems to be the plan for Resorts World Las Vegas as well. A statement on the Resort’s official website sheds some light on the situation:

“RWLV will be a $4 billion integrated resort with a unique Chinese theme. The Genting Group is committed to ensuring that all aspects of the Chinese theming will be authentic while offering all the modern luxury amenities visitors to Las Vegas expect. Construction of the first phase of RWLV will be done in stages and will include a hotel; multiple restaurants including a variety of authentic, regional Chinese cuisines; over 100,000 square feet of innovative gaming space; numerous retail offerings; and a top-tier nightlife venue.”

The Resorts World Las Vegas is expected to consist of 3,400 rooms spread over three new towers on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. The casino is also expected to be majestic with its 100,000 square feet gaming floor. The Resort is going to be Genting Group’s first project in Nevada. The company already owns some of the biggest resorts in Malaysia, South Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom and the Bahamas.
